ABA Therapy, the gold standard of care

You know your child is amazing – we at Flywheel Centers do too! Our ABA therapy in Maryland is like a personalized roadmap to help kids with autism grow. We focus on understanding how your child learns and working with them in a positive and fun way. Through ABA therapy with an RBT (registered behavior technician), they build skills such as communication and handling everyday challenges. FAQs:

ABA therapy has changed a lot over the years, but some outdated misconceptions persist. It’s important to know that:

  • ABA is not punishment-based: Modern ABA focuses on positive reinforcement and motivation, not punishment.
  • ABA is not meant to “cure” autism: We embrace neurodiversity and aim to help children with autism gain the most independence they can within their natural abilities.
  • ABA is not just for young children: ABA is beneficial for individuals of all ages, adapting to different developmental stages.
  • ABA is not one-size-fits-all: Flywheel Centers for ABA creates individualized plans for each child’s specific needs.

Flywheel Centers’ ABA therapy is provided by skilled therapists who use evidence-based techniques to help children develop communication skills:

  • Develop verbal language: Learning to speak and use language to express needs and wants.
  • Improve nonverbal communication: Using gestures, eye contact, and facial expressions to communicate.
  • Understand and respond to language: Comprehending what others are saying and following instructions, utilizing tools like picture cards or devices to communicate.

Play is a fun way for children to learn. We incorporate play into ABA therapy sessions at Flywheel Centers to teach new skills. This is accomplished using games and toys to teach social skills, communication, and other important behaviors. Making ABA therapy playful increases their motivation, helps develop social skills on a peer-to-peer level, and gives them the tools they need to apply these skills in different settings.

Both have distinct vital roles in your child’s development. An ABA therapist, or an RBT, works directly with your child and works off a plan developed by your BCBA. They work on a one-on-one basis with your child, tracking their progress. A BCBA is a master’s level clinician with advanced training and certification in ABA. They conduct assessments, design individualized treatment plans, supervise the ABA therapists, and monitor your child’s progress.

Does my insurance cover ABA therapy?
