CENTER-BASED ABA THERAPY (COLUMBIA LOCATION – OPENING SOON)

Our 5457 Twin Knolls Road facility is being designed specifically for children with autism in one of Maryland’s most family-focused communities. Located along Columbia’s main corridor—minutes from the Columbia Mall, easy access from Route 29, Route 32, and I-95—our center will deliver intensive therapy programs for ages 18 months through adolescence in a state-of-the-art environment built for Howard County families.

Children will develop crucial communication abilities through integrated speech therapy services, assistive technology support, and carefully structured social learning opportunities. Our curriculum emphasizes school readiness and community participation, and we’ll collaborate closely with Howard County Public Schools to ensure therapy goals support educational success and classroom achievement. We’ll work directly with teachers at high-performing schools throughout the county, providing consultation that creates seamless support.

The center environment will offer valuable peer interaction experiences that prepare children for diverse social situations throughout Columbia—from collaborative learning in classroom settings to effective communication during community events at the Columbia Lakefront, Merriweather Symphony Woods, or village centers. We’ll create structured playgroups that mirror real classroom dynamics, teaching children to navigate busy environments like the Columbia Mall, manage transitions during visits to the Howard County Library branches, and participate appropriately in Columbia’s diverse community settings from farmers markets at Lake Kittamaqundi to concerts at Merriweather Post Pavilion.

Our facility will include sensory-friendly spaces designed to help children develop self-regulation skills they’ll use everywhere—from managing the transitions of Howard County’s rigorous academic environment to tolerating crowded spaces at Columbia Festival of the Arts or Columbia Association pool facilities. We don’t just teach skills in isolation; we prepare children for the actual experiences of growing up in Columbia’s unique, inclusive planned community.

IN-HOME ABA THERAPY THROUGHOUT HOWARD COUNTY

Our in-home ABA therapy will deliver specialized autism intervention directly to Columbia-area families, providing convenient access to evidence-based treatments in the comfort of your own home. This individualized approach addresses the specific opportunities and lifestyle considerations of living in Howard County—from navigating Columbia’s village system to thriving in surrounding communities throughout one of Maryland’s most desirable counties.

Our Maryland-licensed BCBAs will conduct therapy sessions within Howard County homes, teaching functional skills in the environments where children use them daily. This includes practicing family routines, developing communication strategies for Columbia community interactions, building social skills for neighborhood activities along pathway systems, and fostering independence skills appropriate for Columbia’s unique planned community lifestyle.

In-home therapy integrates seamlessly with Columbia family schedules while enabling parents to actively participate in evidence-based treatment approaches. Our team understands Howard County’s community character—from Columbia’s ten villages (Wilde Lake, Harper’s Choice, Oakland Mills, Long Reach, Owen Brown, Hickory Ridge, River Hill, Kings Contrivance, Town Center, and Dorsey’s Search) to neighboring Ellicott City and Clarksville—and will help children develop skills that support engagement with local opportunities, educational programming, and social activities throughout the region.

We’ll incorporate Columbia-specific skill development into every treatment plan. That might mean practicing appropriate restaurant behavior at Clyde’s of Columbia or Iron Bridge Wine Company before a family dinner, building social awareness for community events at the Columbia Lakefront or village centers, developing money skills during shopping trips to the Columbia Mall or Whole Foods, or learning pathway safety and bike skills for navigating Columbia’s extensive trail system independently as they grow.

Howard County Public Schools serves families exceptionally well with some of Maryland’s highest-performing schools and robust special education services. From elementary schools like Centennial Lane (IB program), Talbott Springs, and Clemens Crossing to middle schools like Lake Elkhorn, Wilde Lake, and Oakland Mills to high schools like River Hill, Atholton, and Long Reach, HCPSS provides excellent educational opportunities. Our BCBAs will attend IEP meetings throughout the county, collaborate directly with special education coordinators and classroom teachers, and help families access everything from Maryland’s Infants and Toddlers Program to transition services for teens planning for college at UMBC, University of Maryland, or vocational training programs.

We’ll help families access Howard County’s extensive recreation resources including programs through Columbia Association, Howard County Recreation and Parks, Special Olympics Maryland, and inclusive activities at locations like Adventure Park USA, Monster Mini Golf, and Xscape Theatres. Many of our families participate in weekend outings to the National Aquarium in Baltimore (30 minutes), the Smithsonian museums in DC (35 minutes), and local attractions like the Howard County Historical Society and Robinson Nature Center—we’ll provide pre-visit preparation and post-visit debriefing to maximize these learning experiences and reduce anxiety around new environments.
